We are looking for an enthusiastic and well-motivated Senior Building Control Surveyor/Registered Building Inspector to join the Council’s Building Control Team.

Tonbridge & Malling comprises of a mix of residential and commercial developments within an area of some 93 square miles with a population of approximately 134,000.
About You
We are seeking a well-motivated and enthusiastic Building Control Surveyor / Registered Building Inspector with substantial post qualifying experience of working in Building Control to manage an area within the Borough and assist the team as a whole to maintain its current outstandingly high level of service. We will consider and support any applicants who are progressing through the BSR registration process. Duties are to include, carrying out plan assessments for compliance with the Building Regulations, undertaking consultation with statutory bodies, issuing of decisions within statutory timescales, undertaking site inspections, completing suitable site inspection notes, assessing demolitions and dangerous structures as well as providing periodic out of hours cover on a rota basis.
Applicants should have good communication skills as well as a high level of literacy and numeracy together with appropriate IT skills. There is also a requirement for applicants to be committed to delivering a quality customer focused service in what is competitive environment. It is important that applicants have the ability to make clear and accurate decisions at short notice and under pressure.
Applicants will be Registered to Class 2A as a minimum and ideally be a member of the CABE, RICS or CIOB. A current full UK driving licence and daily access to a car for business purposes are required, for which expenses and a car allowance will be paid.

- Apply detailed knowledge of the Building Act 1984, Building Safety Act 2022 and Building Regulations 2010 (as amended).
- Within your established competency, manage the Building Control workload for a specific area under the direction of the Building Control Team Leader by the examination of construction plans and associated documents deposited, issue appropriate defect notices, grant approvals or reject plans or, process building notices considered under the Building Regulations and associated administrative duties.
- To carry out inspections of building works to ensure compliance with the Building Regulations and allied legislation and associated administration as well as keeping of suitable records.
- To undertake consultations with statutory bodies to ensure compliance with the requirements on the Building Regulations.
- Withing set parameters give professional guidance to customers on Building Regulation matters.
Substantial post qualifying experience of working in Building Control.
