Responsibilities

We are looking for an experienced and motivated Registered Building Inspector (Domestic) – Class 2A to support the delivery of safe, compliant and high-quality building control services across our partner authorities.

In this role, you will take ownership of a portfolio of domestic projects, working independently to carry out plan checks, undertake site inspections and deliver proportionate enforcement actions where required. You will provide clear, practical and professional regulatory guidance to clients, contractors and colleagues, helping to ensure compliance with all relevant legislation and standards.

You will also play an important role in maintaining high professional standards, responding to dangerous structures and contributing to the continuous improvement of the service. Alongside this, you will support the development of others by mentoring trainee inspectors, contribute to the Quality Management System and OSR compliance, and ensure accurate record-keeping and case management at all times. Building and maintaining positive relationships with partner organisations and internal team will be central to your success.

About You

You will be registered with the BSR as a Class 2A RBI and have experience working in a building control surveying role, ideally within a local authority or registered building control approver environment.  You will bring strong technical understanding of domestic construction, building regulations and professional codes of practice, along with the confidence to interpret legislation in a practical solutions-focused way.

With effective communication skills, you will be able to engage clearly and professionally with a range of stakeholders. You will be proficient in building control software, with the ability to manage your workload independently, accurately and with a high level of diligence.

Essential qualifications/skills
• Registered with the RBI as Class 2A RBI and must undergo/pass regular competence validation assessment aligned with the Building Safety Regulator (BSR) and the relevant Class.

• Demonstrable experience in a building control surveying role within a Local Authority Building Control or Approved Inspector environment.

• Demonstrate good knowledge of the construction industry, methods, techniques and materials.

• Working knowledge of legislation, regulations and professional codes of practice for Building Control, including the OSR set by the BSR.

• Interpret Building Regulations and associated legislation in a practical focused approach.

• Engage in lifelong learning to stay current with building regulations and safety standards.

• Prepare and present technical information clearly, handling enquiries with professionalism.

• Awareness of Health and Safety legislation in the context of conducting site inspections and dealing with dangerous structures.

• Understand the role and legal boundaries of building control, particularly for Class 2A.
