Can you help towards effectively delivering the Building Control function within the heart of North Yorkshire?

North Yorkshire Building Control Partnership (NYBCP) was the first Local Authority Building Control Partnership in the UK and is now part of the new unitary authority of North Yorkshire Council. We provide a flexible and modern building control service on behalf of North Yorkshire Council.

Our vision is to ensure that buildings in North Yorkshire are designed and constructed in accordance with the Building Regulations and associated legislation.

It is an exciting time to join North Yorkshire Council. In April 2023, eight former smaller councils unified, offering increasing opportunities within the service. We currently have opportunities available for Assistant Building Control Surveyors, Building Control Surveyors and Senior Building Control Surveyors. These are hybrid working roles with expectation to attend offices in North Yorkshire when required including North Yorkshire Building Control Partnership head office at Easingwold, Civic Centre (Skipton) and Civic Centre (Harrogate).

  • Assistant Building Control Surveyor - £25,119 to £32,076 (subject to pay award)
  • Building Control Surveyor - £32,076 to £40,221 (subject to pay award)
  • Senior Building Control Surveyors - £40,221 to £44,428 (subject to pay award)

We are seeking Assistant Building Control Surveyors, Building Control Surveyors and Senior Building Control Surveyors who are registered with the Building Safety Regulator and have demonstrated their level of competence through an approved validation scheme or are working towards the validation of their competence. The core focus of the role is to effectively deliver the building control function throughout North Yorkshire and contribute towards the objectives of the council.

Responsibilities

About the role

We are seeking Assistant Building Control Surveyors, Building Control Surveyors and Senior Building Control Surveyors. to effectively deliver the Building Control function throughout North Yorkshire and contribute towards the objectives of the Council.  Working alongside a professional team, you will be competent at the appropriate level in all Building Control and administrative matters, ensuring that appropriate buildings meet the regulatory standards in safety, sustainability, accessibility and design.

You will initiate and assist with enforcement action to ensure delivery of the Partnerships obligations under the Building Act and associated legislation, whilst working within a highly competitive market.  The post holder will ensure a strong and efficient performance culture with a focus on service excellence and customer satisfaction.

About You

To be successful in the role the post holder will:

  • Be educated, or working towards, a Degree/HNC level in a relevant subject such as Building Control, Building Surveying, Construction or Structural Engineering and/or be able to demonstrate learning at an equivalent level.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of the construction industry, methods, techniques and materials.
  • Have knowledge of Building Regulations, procedures and associated Building Control functions offered by a Local Authority.
  • Have the ability to understand architects plans, compile reports and records and undertake site inspection work.
  • Have the ability to work across teams and with other partnerships to promote effective service delivery and a strong performance culture.
  • Technically competent individual who demonstrates logical methods of working, shows attention to detail and provides clear professional advice.
  • Have vision, energy and drive, demonstrating a solid work ethic.
  • Good interpersonal/ people skills, self-motivated and a productive team player.

Essential qualifications/skills
Depending on the posts being applied for, be educated to Degree/HNC level, or working towards, in a relevant subject such as Building Control, Building Surveying, Construction, Structural Engineering and/or be able to demonstrate learning at an equivalent level is essential
Desirable qualifications/skills
Member of a relevant professional body such as RICS, CABE or CIOB is desirable/essential dependant on the post being applied for.
