We have an opportunity for a suitably qualified and experienced Building Surveyor/ Senior Building Surveyor to join our small but successful and highly skilled team based in Maidstone Town Centre, the County Town of Kent. 

Our Building Control Team has a reputation for high standards of service delivery and customer care, ensuring our customer requirements alongside performance targets are met.

We are looking for a surveyor who is committed to delivering a first-class customer orientated service and has the ability to promote our service in a busy competitive marketplace. You will be highly motivated and have excellent communication skills with the ability to engage effectively with different audiences but with the experience to know when to seek expert help.

You will be a key member of our Building Control Team ensuring safe, compliant and sustainable development across a varied workload. 

Responsibilities

The primary role of the post holder is to enforce Building Regulations.  You will be responsible for the supervision of an area that covers both domestic and commercial types of work in a geographical area that encompasses the North Downs AONB.

Duties are varied and will include:

  • Responsibility to carry out building control duties
  • Negotiating and advising developers, applicants and other interested parties
  • Keeping up to date with changes in legislation
  • Carry out plan appraisals within the prescribed period to ensure compliance with Building Regulations
  • Liaise with statutory undertakers – Kent Fire and Rescue, Southern Water Services
  • Out of Hours stand-by for dangerous structures for which an additional allowance is paid plus overtime for any hours worked.
Essential qualifications/skills
• Registered class 2 Building Inspector
• Expert knowledge of building construction and the Building Regulations
• Full valid UK driving licence with ability to attend sites across the borough
• Extensive knowledge and experience of the Building Regulations and Building Act
• Highly competent numeric, literacy and communication skills
• Ability to work within minimum supervision, on own initiative and to provide management support
Desirable qualifications/skills
• Membership of an approved professional institute such as RICS, CABE, CIOB or other suitable equivalent.
