The Isle of Wight is a unique place to live and work. It benefits from some of the most protected and beautiful landscapes and habitats in the UK and was declared a UNESCO Biosphere Reserve in 2019.
IOW Council Building Control deliver services across the island covering all classes of building, and an interesting range of dangerous structures. The focus is always on technical compliance to contribute to the health, safety & welfare of the island’s residents and visitors.
We are looking for a motivated and experienced Class 2F (or higher) Registered Building Inspector (RBI), to share their knowledge & expertise in leading a team of dedicated professionals, to serve the community in the delivery of Building Control in this unique environment.
The successful applicant will be one of two Principals in the wider Building Control department, managing a team of RBIs. You will have a caseload, leading on the more complex projects, and use your experience with mentoring and training team members. You will deal with a wide range of Dangerous Structures and enforcement activities where appropriate.
Working within a RBI’s Code of Conduct, you will be able to work collaboratively with colleagues and service users to encourage compliance by consent. You will also form part of the Building Control Management team, helping to shape and evolve the future of Building Control on the island, whilst embracing legislative change. With potential for further career progression.
The Postholder will be based at Seaclose Offices, Newport, IOW. PO30 2QS. With potential for some hybrid working.
