As a senior professional officer, you will lead and manage a team of building control professionals and technical officers, ensuring the efficient processing and assessment of various building regulations and applications. You will oversee the local authority's Building Control services, making critical decisions on behalf of the Authority, particularly concerning applications determined under the Building Act and the Building Safety Regulator. This role demands a high level of professional judgment, accountability, and innovation, as you will be working closely on complex projects that require expertise in fire safety, sustainability, energy conservation, and accessibility.
Beyond technical assessments and enforcement actions, you will be responsible for customer service, fostering partnerships, and supporting the Head of Building Control in generating income and business opportunities. Your leadership will be pivotal in supervising staff, maintaining performance indicators, and ensuring compliance with regulatory standards. Additionally, you will provide emergency cover for safety assessments at sports grounds, events, and dangerous structures, contribute to council transformation programs, and act as an expert witness in planning and development matters. Representing the local authority both internally and externally, you will play a key role in strategic workforce planning, professional development, and the continuous improvement of service delivery.
Your extensive understanding of building regulations, current legislative issues, and technical processes enables you to drive improvements and successfully meet performance targets.
