You will be a senior member of a busy team of building inspectors, maintaining a caseload of complex applications for Building Regulations approval and supporting the wider team. You will be expected to proactively seek opportunities to promote our Building Control services and increase our market share. Alongside this you will respond to reports of dangerous buildings, liaising with property owners, external bodies and the Council's Civil Contingencies team as appropriate to maintain public safety.

You will be a member (or eligible for immediate membership) of a related professional institute e.g. the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors, Chartered Institute of Building, or the Chartered Association of Building Engineers. You will hold the relationship between the Council and developer, in respect of major development proposals, providing an efficient and effective building control service and representing the Service on a range of major projects.

Essential qualifications/skills
You are an effective and proven professional, with experience in a wide range of building control applications and commercially minded. A self- starter, highly motivated and enthusiastic about local authority building control services, with a passion to deliver an effective and responsive service and capable of inspiring teams. This role will play a key part in the delivery of the Deal for the Future and the Growth of Wigan Borough.
You will possess excellent verbal and written communications skills, along with the ability and confidence to provide advice and guidance on highly complex technical matters to residents, colleagues, businesses elected members, and build positive working relationships.
You must be IT literate with the ability to adapt to new technology. You will need a current and valid driving licence and use of your own vehicle.
