Wigan Council has been voted 'Council of the Year' at the 2019 LGC Awards and has recently published The Deal 2030, our ambitious plan for our borough. We are signed up to the Greater Manchester Continuous Service Commitment ensuring that your service will be continuous or 'unbroken' between the supporting organisations.
Wigan is a great place to work and, as a local authority, we truly value and recognise our staff as our greatest asset. Through our 'Be Wigan' behaviours, Be Courageous, Be Accountable and Be Positive, we actively encourage innovation, strive to deliver outstanding services and celebrate our successes.
As an employer we like to thank our employees for their hard work and commitment by giving them the opportunity to access a range of exclusive rewards and benefits.
You will be a member of a busy team of building inspectors, maintaining a caseload of applications for Building Regulations approval including some more complex and challenging projects. You will be expected to proactively seek opportunities to promote our Building Control services and increase our market share. Alongside this you will respond to reports of dangerous buildings, liaising with property owners, external bodies and the Council's Civil Contingencies team as appropriate to maintain public safety.
You will be working towards membership of a related professional institute e.g. the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors, Chartered Institute of Builders, Chartered Institute of Builders, or the Chartered Association of Building Engineers.
You will hold the relationship between the Council and developer, in respect of their development proposals, providing an efficient and effective building control service and representing the Service on a range of major projects.
